President Obama says, "Insulation is sexy!"
President Obama also went on to say that insulation is sexy because it saves money!
I don't know how sexy insulation is, but I do agree that it saves money.
Missing insulation or low levels of insulation can result in high utility bills. The picture to the right shows typical places that air leaks into and out of a house.
Since you can't see air, how do you know where your air leaks are? How do you know how leaky your house is? Can your house be too air tight?

These are all questions that can be answered by a home energy audit.

Heat flows naturally from a warmer to a cooler space. For example, in winter heat flows from your heated living space to outside. In summer, heat flows from outside into your air conditioned space. Insulation is designed to decrease the movement of heated air into or out of your house. It can only reduce the movement of air within the space that it occupies
When you need insulation there are quite a few choices to consider. You are probably familiar with the traditional types of insulation like batts, blankets, and loose fill.
TYPES OF INSULATION
Spray foam polyurethane insulation such as Icynene or Demilec is a revolutionary insulation material you may not be familiar with. It is a foam that is applied as a liquid and expands to 100 times its initial voulme, sealing even tiny cracks and crevices, and eliminating air leaks.
Spray foam (pictured at the right) also serves as a sound barrier and can be used in attics, crawlspaces, and walls.
An attic zipper seal (pictured above) can help prevent heated air from leaking through your attic hatch.
The US Dept of Energy recommends having between R-30 - R-60 in attics in Georgia. That's between 12" to 22".
